The source-backed open-hardware platform combines an ESP32-S3, TROPIC01 secure element, front-lit e-paper display, twelve-button keypad, LiPo power path, and expansion ports, while public sources do not establish a conference-wide or admission-badge allocation.
NFC-updatable passive four-color e-paper developer-conference badge
Flutter & Friends' organizer-published conference-app source added a Friends Badge editor on August 30, 2025: users could select an image, preview it with dithering, and write it to the conference badge through NFC. The companion `friends_badge` package explicitly describes control of the Flutter & Friends e-paper conference badge, and its implemented target profile is a passive four-color e-paper device. The source-backed record establishes a real event-linked electronic artifact at the completed Stockholm conference, but does not establish that every attendee received one, that it served as admission, or what final physical units contained.

Official ESP32-S3 NFC e-paper badge with post-event Apache-2.0 source release
NorthSec 2026's official registration page lists a new social electronic badge as an included item for conference, CTF, combo, and training ticket holders while supplies lasted. The official competition page's retained 2026 Solarpunk section says the hackable electronic badge was fully integrated into the CTF, with badge challenges worth points and on-site badge-firmware tampering among the physical tracks. Official villages pages document badge pickup through attendees' nSec order QR codes, soldering-village activity where attendees could enhance their badge with blinking electronic parts, and a badge museum. On August 3, after the May event, NorthSec published the separate Apache-2.0 `nsec/badge-2026` repository. Its commit-pinned hardware and source tree documents an ESP32-S3 badge design with an ST25R3916 NFC front end, six buttons, eighteen WS2812/NeoPixel LEDs, a 200×200 GDEH0154D67 / SSD1681 e-paper path, KiCad design files, production BOM/CPL/Gerbers, PlatformIO firmware, conference/CTF partitions, CTF assets, and dock/SAO directories.
Open ESP32-S3 Chicago builder-festival hardware badge
Onion DAO's official 2026 Chicago festival page says every accepted attendee gets a hardware badge at registration, with most components already on the board and a final soldering step. The same official site links to OnionDAO's public oniondao-badge repository, which documents a hacker-conference-style ESP32-S3 design, optional RF/audio modules, a display socket, secure element, expansion ports, and source trees for hardware and software. The public record supports a real organizer-published artifact and design, while exact recipient allocation, completed assembly, and final attendee population remain unverified.
Post-event STM32U073 badge with MIT firmware, AI control, and CTF surface
A post-event official RHC firmware release documents the AI-Connected DEF CON 34 badge as an STM32U073 device with a 1.54-inch 200×200 e-paper display, two WS2812 eyes, arm LED, buzzer, vibration motor, NEC infrared, CH340 USB serial, four buttons, on-badge CTF challenges, and AI Interactive Mode. The MIT-licensed source and binary were published August 18-20 after the scheduled August 6-9 Las Vegas programme. This establishes a released badge platform, not a recipient count, individual pickup, or a complete production ledger.
